The Rainforest Ecolodge is situated in the Sinharaja Division of the Enselwatte Estate in Deniyaya. This plot of previously cultivated tea land borders the south-western fringe of the Sinharaja forest reserve. Sinharaja rainforest is a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site inscribed in 1988. The Sinharaja is also a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and a Biodiversity Hotspot as designated by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). All these titles highlight the importance of the forest reserve and hence the location of the Ecolodge in terms of its biodiversity as well as its fragility. In selecting this location, the importance of committing to the conservation of its surroundings and promoting the cause through its development and operations. Set amidst 10 feet away of the tropical rainforest and the luxury chalets has been designed especially for people who are seeking serenity and indulgent pleasure. Feel at home within 16 comfortable Chalets that are designed with recycled material and adorned with every amenity imaginable. The Chalets are situated among the tea patch and offer guests breathtaking views of the forest canopy and tea estate that provide for lasting memories. Experience the vibrant shades of nature all at once. The interior is ideally decorated with bamboo paneling while the floor and private deck done with rejected railway sleepers. Each chalet consists of a bedroom, a washroom, a living area and a private deck. Guests can experience the waves of mist that appear in a split second and last just as long. Raindrops hitting the earth with a happy thud followed by the sublime sound of streams that mysteriously come alive as if on some secret impulse. The symphony of birds chirping in cross-rhythm to the throbbing of Toads and the hustle and bustle of Squirrels; relenting, responding, corroborating to the changing pattern of weather and finally the deep, quiet hush that the rainforest succumbs to. It’s a fitting introspection to dazzling biodiversity. Chalets, Conforming to a world renowned ecotourism concept, each Chalet is architecturally designed using 2 1/2 recycled shipping containers and is perched on stilts above the tea patch. Meats and seafood are once in two days brought in from Galle. After you enter through the imposing entrance of the Rainforest Ecolodge, a series of metal walkways leads to the lounge, dining room and reading room. All have spectacular tea plantation and jungle views. The open sided dining room is served by a well-equipped kitchen.
